Proposals

The site

The proposal site is located on land at 42 – 44 London Road, Bagshot.

Summary of submitted plans

McCarthy & Stone propose to redevelop the site with 46 Retirement Living PLUS (Extra Care) apartments, together with attractive landscaping and on-site car parking. The proposals include:

  • Tailored communal facilities within the building, including a shared lounge, a counter-service bistro, landscaped gardens and a guest suite for visitors wishing to stay the night;
  • A building of three and four storeys in height, stepping down to two-and-a-half storeys towards Half Moon Street to respect the neighbouring conservation area and residential dwellings;
  • Communal facilities, including a shared lounge and bistro restaurant, as well as a guest suite for visitors wishing to stay the night;
  • Parking for 32 cars for residents and staff, this is an increase of 6 spaces following feedback received from local residents during the consultation, who expressed concern about local parking provision;
  • Retention of the ‘in and out’ vehicular access on London Road, with pedestrian access through to the village from Half Moon Street;
  • A design that respects the traditional character of the village, including brick detailing, plain clay roof tiles, traditional fenestration and materials common to the local area; and,
  • Attractive, extensive landscaping, including the enhancement of trees along the boundaries of the site, creating a pleasant residential environment.

Amended Plans

Following the submission of the application in December 2018, we have continued to review the feedback we have received from local residents, councillors and Officers, and have since developed revised plans that seek to address the comments made.

We held a public information day to display these amended plans, and offer the community the opportunity to provide further feedback. This event took place on Saturday 1st June 2019, between 10am – 2pm, at St Anne’s Church Centre, 45 Church Road, Bagshot, GU19 5EQ.
