The site

Aerial view of the site

The proposal site is located at 3 – 15 The Broadway, Haywards Heath. It is currently comprised of a number of commercial units and flats along The Broadway, along with hardstanding and a car valeting area towards the rear of the site. The immediate area surrounding the site is largely mixed-use, with commercial units at street level and apartments above, in a range of architectural styles and heights.

The site is abutted by a car park to the west, which is screened by a significant tree buffer. The Star Hotel public house is located by the south-eastern corner of the site, whilst residential apartments and commercial buildings sit to the south and east. Finally, Muster Green North railway bridge borders the site to the north.

The site has been identified through the Haywards Heath Town Centre Masterplan as presenting an opportunity for a taller, mixed-use development to “help frame the street and bring ground floor activity”, helping to inject further life to The Broadway.

McCarthy Stone has subsequently acquired an interest in the site and believes it would be suitable to provide much-needed retirement accommodation, exclusively for the over 60s, alongside the reprovision of new, high-quality commercial space. Our proposals would see the removal of the existing buildings, utilising the whole site to bring forward this redevelopment.

There are sustainable transport connections nearby, with local bus services travelling into Horsham and the surrounding areas. Haywards Heath Railway Station is located within 0.6 miles of the site and provides connections to Brighton and London.
