Redevelopment proposals for Dove Service Station well-received by Ashbourne residents

McCarthy and Stone – the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities – received good-levels of support for its plans to redevelop the Dove Service Station on Mayfield Road, Ashbourne with older people’s accommodation.

Around 2,000 households, businesses and stakeholders were invited to attend a public exhibition on Wednesday 17th July 2019 at the Waterside Centre in Ashbourne to view McCarthy and Stone’s plans for the site. Neighbours of the site along with local stakeholders were also offered one-to-one meetings to discuss the proposals.

The plans would see the circa two-acre site redeveloped with 38 Retirement Living apartments (mix of one and two-bed), together with a homeowners’ lounge and communal gardens.

McCarthy & Stone would also deliver seven two-bedroom bungalows and six two-bedroom cottages with private gardens and private parking spaces.

The developer has said its plans were positively received by the majority of those who attended, with many praising the mix of property types and welcoming the site’s redevelopment.

Matt Wills, Regional Managing Director of McCarthy and Stone, said:

“We would like to thank everyone who took the time to attend our public exhibition and provide feedback on our proposals.

“We are delighted to have received a positive early response from the local community for our proposals which will meet a growing need for specialist housing for older people in Ashbourne.

“Our proposals seek to complement the existing architecture within the town, whilst also redeveloping a brownfield site.

“There is a growing need for older persons’ housing in the District which our proposal for this site would help to address. The Office for National Statistics (ONS), for example, has predicted that the local over 65s population will rise by 34% over the next 20 years.

“We will carefully review all of the feedback received before submitting an application to Derbyshire Dales District Council in the coming months.”

McCarthy and Stone’s developments seek to promote an active lifestyle, with homeowners being encouraged to participate in activities organised by the house manager, including coffee mornings, leisure clubs and trips away – providing an excellent quality of life for all.
