Retirement plans submitted for Dove Service Station site in Ashbourne

McCarthy and Stone, the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, has submitted a planning application to Derbyshire Dales District Council to redevelop the Dove Service Station site on Mayfield Road, Ashbourne with much-needed retirement accommodation.

The submitted plans would see the site redeveloped with 41 Retirement Living apartments, 7 Retirement Living bungalows and 6 Retirement Living cottages, all for private sale.

28 on-site car parking spaces are set to be provided for homeowners and visitors, whilst each bungalow and cottage will benefit from a dedicated car parking space.

The plans also feature tailored communal facilities, including a Homeowners’ Lounge, guest suite, and a landscaped communal garden.

Before submitting its plans, McCarthy and Stone held a public exhibition at The Waterside Centre in July, to which approximately 2000 local households, businesses and stakeholders were invited to attend.

73% of the feedback received during its consultation with the community expressed support or no view on McCarthy and Stone’s proposals, with particular support for the provision of specialist housing for local older people, along with the redevelopment of a brownfield site.

Matt Wills, Regional Managing Director of McCarthy and Stone, commented:

“We would like to thank everyone who took their time to attend our public exhibition and provide feedback on our plans to redevelop this vacant, brownfield site.

“The feedback received has revealed that there is a good-level of local support for our proposals.

“Our proposals would deliver a range of wider benefits, including a boost for local businesses in Ashbourne, a streamlined health and social care provision, and the release of under-occupied homes back into the local market, enabling younger families to get on the housing ladder.”

McCarthy and Stone’s developments seek to promote an active lifestyle, with homeowners being encouraged to participate in activities organised by the house manager, including coffee mornings, leisure clubs and trips away – providing an excellent quality of life for all.

Every Retirement Living developments has its own House Manager – someone to manage the day-to-day running of your development and to be on hand during office hours.
