Local Need and Benefits

There is a significant need for this type of development both nationally and locally, and it is important that communities address the current and future needs of their residents.

Gravesham Borough Council’s Part 1 Local Plan Review (Regulation 18) document, published in October 2020, identified that the number of households in the Borough would increase by 2% between 2020-2036, with the greatest increase in households growth being attributable to older (65+) person households (26.5%).

Given this increase the council states that “there will be an increase in older persons households, especially those aged 85+, there will be an increased need for sheltered housing and care home provisions in the Borough over the next plan period (2039).”
